The Great Lakes Legacy Act provides funding to remediate contaminated sediments in Great Lakes Areas of Concern (AOCs). The Illinois-Indiana and Wisconsin Sea Grant, with support from U.S. EPA, created a video that showcases the tremendous impact that the Great Lakes Legacy Act, as well as broader restoration efforts, can have in revitalizing waterfront areas. The video teaches about not only the process of the Legacy Act but the many benefits remediating and restoring an AOC can bring. It emphasizes the power of community involvement and how locals can get involved. The video simplifies and personalizes the Legacy Act, targeting both laypeople and active AOC citizens.
The City of Elyria is conducting restoration activities on the Black River in Cascade Park to help restore and preserve aquatic and riparian habitat and reduce bank erosion and sediment loads into the river. The project includes restoration and preservation of 1,300 linear feet of stream channel and 1.6 acres of forested riparian buffer on the river's main stem.
