Approximately $3 million in federal grants for stream water quality improvement will be available through Ohio EPA. The application deadline is the close of business June 1, 2012. Projects designed to reduce nonpoint source pollution in streams where aquatic life is suffering from soil and pollution runoff will be given priority. A local 40 percent match of total project costs is required for these grants.
4/11 -- The second annual Black River Kayak-A-Thon will be held on June 23, 2012 before the Lorain International Festival. This event will include several classes of competitive races, as well as a casual float for those who want to take their time and view the restoration projects. This event is being held to encourage recreation on the Black River and celebrate the restoration efforts that are underway along the river. Please visit
